Powder Days with a Whiskey and Beer Chaser

by Dan Giesin | November 17, 2017

One bourbon, one Scotch, and one beer! Nothing goes better with après after a day on the slopes. The best part is, two of the three are distilled and brewed at, or near, many resorts these days, which give locavore a whole new meaning because these libations are always in season. Here are a few of our favorites.

Utah may have some weird laws when it comes to consuming beer, wine, and liquor, just Google “Zion Curtain,” and you’ll see what we mean:

The Beehive state features one of the ski country’s best distilleries! Near the bottom of Main Street at the base of the Town Lift in Park City, High West Distillery features bourbon, rye and its signature Campfire, which is the world’s only blend of Scotch, bourbon and rye whiskeys with a distinctive and smoky finish. That’ll warm you up after a day on the slopes!

Venture to the top of Main Street in Park City and you’ll be rewarded with some of Utah’s finest beers, including Polygamy Porter – why have just one? – and First One Down Winter Warmer Ale at Wasatch Brew Pub.

Just north of Stowe, Vermont, Green Mountain Distillers has been crafting organic Vodka, Gin and Maple Liquor for 15 years in Morrisville, Vermont. Maple in Vermont? Yes! It’s what they do, so mix it, or simply enjoy it on the rocks!

Heady Topper

Follow the delivery truck around and grab a Heady Topper.

Down the road from Stowe is one of Vermont’s most famous breweries, and also one of its newest, Alchemist Brewery, which makes its signature Heady Topper.  How popular is Heady Topper? The Alchemist only delivers this American Double IPA within a 30-mile radius of the brewery, and skiers have been known to follow the delivery trucks around, purchasing as much as they can to bring home. Yeah, it’s that good!

Everyone knows that the best Vodka is distilled from potatoes! So where do you find the best potatoes? Idaho of course! Nestled in the tiny town of Driggs, Idaho near Grand Targhee and just over the pass from Jackson Hole, Wyoming you’ll find Grand Teton Distillery.  From potato to cherry, huckleberry, and spiced apple flavored Vodka, these guys know Vodka. They know Moonshine too! Want a piece of the pie, or barrel? Check out Grand Teton’s Adopt a Barrel program.

Growing potatoes and making Vodka isn’t the only game in town! Tap the Tetons at Wildlife Brewing in Victor, Idaho after a day on the slopes. Featuring Spud Light, Buckwild Double Blonde, and Gone-Jah IPA.
